What is Wood Chipper Machine

A wood chipper machine is a machine used for reducing wood (generally tree limbs or trunks) into smaller woodchips. They are often portable, being mounted on wheels on frames suitable for towing behind a truck or van.

Benefits of Wood Chipper Machine

01/

Efficiency and Time Savings
One of the most compelling reasons to use a wood chipper machine is its remarkable efficiency. Manual cutting, hauling, and disposing of bulky wood waste can be labor-intensive and time-consuming. Wood chipper machine streamline this process by quickly reducing large pieces of wood into small chips. This efficiency not only saves time but also reduces the physical effort required to handle and transport wood waste, making it an ideal choice for both residential and commercial users.

02/

Environmental Benefits
Wood chipper machine contribute to sustainable waste management practices. Instead of allowing wood waste to decompose in landfills and emit methane gas, a potent greenhouse gas, wood chipper machine facilitate recycling. The resulting wood chips can be repurposed in various ways, including as mulch for landscaping, composting material, or even as a source of biomass energy. By recycling wood waste, wood chipper machine help minimize the environmental impact of organic materials and contribute to a more circular economy.

03/

Landscaping and Gardening
Wood chips produced by a wood chipper machine have numerous applications in landscaping and gardening. As mulch, they help conserve soil moisture by reducing evaporation, prevent weed growth by blocking sunlight, and regulate soil temperature. Over time, the wood chips break down, enriching the soil with organic matter and nutrients, which enhances plant growth. This makes wood chipper machine an essential tool for maintaining beautiful and thriving outdoor spaces.

04/

Wood-Based Products
Beyond landscaping, wood chips generated by wood chipper machine can be used in various wood-based products. They serve as raw material for the production of particleboard, paper, and other wood composite materials. This utilization reduces the demand for virgin wood resources, promoting sustainable forestry practices and minimizing deforestation.

05/

Safety and Hazard Mitigation
Dead or overhanging branches, as well as fallen trees, can pose significant safety hazards, especially during storms or adverse weather conditions. Wood chipper machine aid in mitigating these risks by swiftly transforming potentially hazardous wood waste into manageable chips. This proactive approach helps prevent property damage, injuries, and accidents caused by falling branches or trees.

06/

Versatility and Adaptability
Wood chipper machine come in a range of sizes and capacities to suit various needs. Smaller, portable models are suitable for homeowners with moderate wood waste, while larger industrial-grade chippers are designed to tackle substantial tasks such as clearing land or processing large trees. How To Use Wood Chipper Machine

Step 1: Prepare the working area
Before you even start using the machine, you need to make sure the area you will be working from is clear from any sort of debris. You also want to make sure there are no holes in your working area. The holes May be a risk factor since you can end up falling during your work session.
Make sure the path is clear enough. Spot out an area where your machine will be expelling the chippings. Preparing and clearing the working area also helps avoid foreign objects from going through the wood chipper machine.
Now, once that is done, position your wood chipper machine downwind to avoid the dust which will be ejected from splashing all over your face. It would be best if you continuously operate the machine on level ground.

Step 2: Make adjustments on the chip chute and the chip deflector
The chip chute and the deflector help you regulate the direction and distance the wood chips are thrown. You don't want the chips to be thrown too close to the machine or far away, creating a hazardous mess around. There are two clamp knobs on the deflector, which can easily be adjusted to regulate the distance.

Step 3: Set the parking brake
If you use other equipment, such as a tractor to haul your wood chipper machine, be sure to set the parking brake so that the tractor does not move. This should be set before powering on the machine.

Step 4: Power on the machine
If you are using gas-powered wood chipper machines, be sure to first check whether there is enough gas and that the engine has oil. If you are using fuel, then make sure there is enough fuel as well. Also, make sure that the shredding chamber and the turbine are empty. If you notice these places are not empty, be informed that your starter mechanism is at risk of overloading.
You want to ensure also that the feeding tool, a stick to be precise, is not inside the hopper. Take a look at the safety grid, confirm that it is closed. You further need to confirm that the safety switch of the chipper is engaged. If it is not engaged, then the chipper will probably not start.
Please note that if you are using electric wood chipper machines, you need to do the above steps before plugging the machine into a power source.

Step 4: Always feed the blunt end first
The wood chipper machine can process the blunt end efficiently, so always feed the thickest side first. By doing so, the wood chipper machine can grab the wood completely. But be keen not to feed the wood chipper machine larger loads than the recommended one. If you ignore this, the chipper May back up and spill the materials back to you causing blunt force trauma or the flurry of dangerous chips which will scratch you in the process.

Step 5: Feed mixture of dry and green limbs
As you feed debris into your wood chipper machine, keep in mind that feeding in the green limbs with the dead ones is essential as the moisture in the green limbs helps to lubricate the chipper's knives. This will, in turn, ensure a smooth process. Always use a long stick to push in any material that is resisting to go through.

Step 6: Keep a safe distance away from the hopper
Instead of standing in front of the hopper, you could choose to stand aside. You need to avoid obtaining severe injuries when the debris escapes forward and finds you off-guard.

Step 7: Put the gathered wood chips into use
Now, after producing wood chips, you need to put them into use. All that effort should not go to waste. The best way to recycle the wood chips is through mulching.

What Should I Look For When Buying A Wood Chipper Machine?

木材削片机

Power
Different wood chipper machine come with different powers. If you need to cut domestic woods, a chipper with less torque will be good. But if you want to cut up solid wood, a commercial wood chipper machine with high torque is best for you!

Bag capacity
One should look for the bin and bags of that capacity, depending on how much debris one has to handle.

Cutting blades
Another thing that should be considered is the chipper's size and type of blades! Some blades can cut up to 2 inches, 4 inches, and 7 inches thick material. Choose the wood chipper machine that suits your needs!

Shredding chute
One should choose a wood chipper machine that comes with a built-in shredding chute. It is better for saving space and costs with the same results!

How Wood Chipper Machine Work

Wood chipper machine are an amalgamation of parts, including a hopper, a collar, a chipper, and usually, a collection bin. Typically powered by a combustion engine (although many electric versions exist), they range in horsepower, depending on size and type. How wood chipper machine work is an interesting mix of processes.

All wood chipper machine contain the same basic pieces. An engine, whether electric or gas, provides power to a gearbox containing v-belts and pulleys, which lead to knives or rollers that chop, slice or mulch or grind, depending on the size and nature of the wood it receives. Most feature separate chutes for the resulting product: one for wood chips and one for mulch. The larger the machine, the bigger the branches it can handle.

Wood Chipper Machine Maintenance

Clean your machine
First off, a dirty wood chipper machine that's covered in shavings and other debris is not going to function as well as a clean wood chipper machine will. Regularly clean your wood chipper machine on the inside and outside to keep its parts clear of debris and free of blockages. If you want to use a pressure washer to clean your wood chipper machine, just make sure that you exercise caution when it comes to getting water near the electrical components or the engine.

Sharpen your blades
Dull blades are going to make your wood chipper machine inefficient, and they can even be dangerous, resulting in damage to your machine. Remove the blades carefully and clean off the grime, then carefully reattach them and ensure the blade bolts have the correct torque.

Grease bearings
There are bearings in your machine that help it to run smoothly, and every so often, the grease will need to be reapplied. Consult your owner's manual as to the right type of lubricant to use and what quantity to apply. When you're working in especially dusty conditions, you'll want to grease the bearings more often to compensate for all that dust.

Check your air filter
The air filter in your wood chipper machine's engine will get clogged up with dirt and dust over time, requiring cleaning. A clogged filter that doesn't get cleaned is liable to cause your engine to overheat and reduce your fuel economy. Check the air filter daily, and more than once a day if conditions are particularly dusty.

Have a push stick
Sometimes branches can get stuck in your wood chipper machine and they need a little push to keep going. You can't use a shovel or other tool, though, as this could cause a disaster if the shovel accidentally goes through the wood chipper machine. Instead, cut a special stick from wood to use as a push stick. If you accidentally send it through the chipper, then no harm, no foul; you can always make a new one. Anything with metal on it should not be used near the feed funnel.
